Great, but after I figured out the learning curve

At first I struggled to get these to not rip open. I followed other people's advice in the comments but still has them rip open a couple times a week. One day I pulled it out to see exactly what was happening. It wasn't ripping, but the seam was coming apart, even though I had folded the bottom. I was really close to sending it back but decided to experiment. I use #4 filters (they are cheaper than the #2 at WinCo) so they are big enough that I would put the filter in crooked, but I was still getting breaks occasionally because the bottom would find its way to the hole. Finally I started folding it differently and haven't had any breaks in a couple weeks. I fold the bottom twice, then the side twice, then I push the bottom up to form a W, put it in and smooth it out. I'm glad I decided to keep it!

For the best Pour Over Cup of Coffee

I love this single hole Kjava Mama pour over coffee dripper. I loved my black one. Not available. :{ I have the white one. I use the Hemp fabric pointed cones. The drip is perfect. I also had trouble with the filters breaking but that had nothing to do with the dripper both the flat bottom and the pointed paper cones were always breaking. So I use these wonderful hemp fabric filters. I also use Kicking Horse Coffee which gives a rich, deep, dark, cup o coffee with no bite mellow and smooth. Rinse out the fabric filters enjoy. I use the 2 cup and #4 fabric filter.

Great pour over Dripper - good value

I recently tried the Kajava Mama Pour Over Coffee Dripper/ceramic, and overall, I’m really liking it. For the price, it feels like a solid deal, especially if you enjoy making pour over coffee. The design is simple yet elegant. It brews a really nice cup of coffee, providing a control flow; a big plus for anyone who appreciates a good pour-over.However, I did have a bit of a wait when it came to shipping. It took longer than I expected to arrive, which was a little frustrating. As for longevity, I’m not entirely sure how well it will hold up in the long run; but I’d recommend handwashing it after it cools down..All in all, I would definitely recommend the Kajava Mama Pour Over Coffee Dripper - a good value coffee maker. Just be prepared for a bit of a wait, and treat it gently. 4 out of 5 stars for me.

Much better result for single cup coffee drinkers.

Fits my large coffee cup for a perfect pour over every time. You'll need #2 filters. The base is 4" in diameter. Solid construction, probably dishwasher-safe, I hand wash my stuff.

Perfect for my daily pour over

Easy to use. I set it atop a Yeti 20 oz thermos and I bought the matching conical filters.

Classy Pour-Over Coffee Maker

Works great. Some reviews mention filter tearing. This might be caused by a cheap or faulty filter, or perhaps by pouring too-hot water directy into the center. The directions on the box suggest wetting the filter first and pouring the water over the grounds in a swirling pattern for two minutes (i.e., slowly.) Another possible solution night be to use a permanent stainless steel or "gold" filter with a paper filter inside for easy cleanup. Finally, some cone filters are truly "cones," i.e., they come to a point; whereas other cone filters - such as Mellita - are not true cones, but have a small horizontal edge on the bottom, which is great if it matches the shape of the pour- over or coffee pot you are using. The ones that actually come to a point fit better in this device, and there is only one crimped seam to fold.Follow up: I have used this every day for five months. I am amused at some of the negative comments. This works perfectly. It is a lifestyle changer. If you bother to learn how to use it properly, you will be rewarded with a better cup of coffee, incredibly easy cleanup-i.e., rinse, done. Plus significant cost savings over any single cup brewer. OF COURSE it doesn't fit wide-mouth coffee cups; the product's dimensions are right there in the product description. If it doesn't fit your mug it is your own fault. The single-hole design is perfect. If your filter gets a hole in it or if it is messy to use, you are using it wrong. There is absolutely no reason this product should not have a solid five stars, even with over 3,000 reviews. Sheesh.

Been Using Continuously for Almost 3 Yrs. -- Just Like New

I really like being to allow the coffee to "bloom" (by pouring just enough hot water to saturate the grounds, and letting it sit for about 30 seconds), just like coffee brewers recommend, to prevent bitterness and improve flavor. I'm the only coffee drinker in the house, so the counter space is clear of yet another appliance. The ceramic material allows me to wash it with my hands under cold water without soap, which only takes a few seconds. It is as clean today as the first time I used it. The ribs on the inside improve the flow of the brewed coffee to the bottom outlet.I definitely recommend getting the larger size (which is the size I bought). I hesitated to pay that much for a pour over brew cup, but it has been worth every penny.

First impressions

I had pour over coffee at my sister’s last week. Her Keurig is acting up and she wanted a low tech solution. We become coffee fiends when together so it was great I brought two bags of flavored coffee for us to try together. (I wondered if it would be odd to fly with coffee grounds because of their known odor blocking properties, but didn’t think of it until too late).I came home and promptly had to get my own because they’re fun as heck.My first impressions. I felt the need to run hot water over it to make sure it was warm and it wouldn’t steal heat from my water. But then again I’m in Colorado in the middle of a cold snap. It’s freezing here.It was really odd and kinda gross looking if you pay attention to the coffee coming out. A lot of it just runs to the edge of the lip and then falls in. It doesn’t just drop from the hole. I can’t explain it. You’ll have to look. All I can say is make sure ALL OF the bottom is super clean. 😰But other than that, my cup of coffee was delicious!!

Perfect cup of coffee!

This is my first attempt at pour overs and I am completely sold!I enjoy a strong cup of coffee. I previously have used a French Press for the strong flavor, but the acidity bothers my stomach. So... I thought I would give a pour over a try. I read all the reviews for this product prior to purchase and followed the recommendations. It makes a great cup of coffee!-I purchased the Kajava #2 filters and they work great. No tearing.-I use an electric kettle to heat the water and immediately pour when done to achieve 195-200 degree temperature of water.-I gently pour just enough to soak the grounds and let set for roughly 30 secs. This saturates the grounds and enhances the flavor.-I gently pour more in a slow stream about half way up the filter, spiraling around the grounds to get a nice crema, then wait for it to drip down. Then repeat for a 2nd time. For me, this creates the perfect cup of robust coffee. If your coffee is weak, you are pouring too much too fast and it is draining too quickly or you are not saturating the grounds first. If your filters are tearing, you are using the wrong filters. I have not had a situation where it takes a long time to drip, so not sure what causes that. It may take a few extra minutes to make a pour over, but the the flavor and low acidity are well worth it!!

BUY THE RIGHT PAPER!

I was wary of buying this product because the reviews showed that it'd break filter paper and you'd have the grounds inside you cup but that isn't the case. Kajava even sells the right type of paper. I fill mine to the very top and there is absolutely no problem with it. Just make sure you're using the right paper and don't complain if you don't.As for the coffee, this is a life changer. If you're a regular coffee drinker, I suggest you get the 2 cup so that you can fill your cup faster. I don't have much time or patience so I fill it to the top then walk away and come back and fill it to the top again. You'll get a feel for it but the best of all is that it'll taste better than your 40 dollar coffee maker. I experimented with the ground sizes and this is what you should expect:Course is going to be what you're aiming for but not too course. The perfect size is in-between Course and Medium.Fine ground size takes a while to process and is a bit bitter. It's not the pleasant kind of bitter either. Just bitter. Too course and you'll be drinking bean juice. Try to get a burr grinder if you will. There's a lot of snobs that say that will say some burr grinders absolutely won't work for espresso. THOSE burr grinders are the kinds that will work for this dripper. Most of all have fun with this and enjoy! I know I sure did. Just don't believe the negativity when people don't properly use this correctly.

Negative reviews are not substantiated

I've been doing pour over for a while now and have 3 different makes that each perform a pour over differently. This is my first one with a single hole in the bottom, which is where most of the negative reviews center on.Speaking for myself, I have come to believe these reviews are written without much awareness behind them. I used the included filters to great effect, as well as the Hario v60. Not once has the bottom of the cone ripped or ruptured, however I'm quite cognizant of grind size and method of pouring, even a 60/40 'git'er done' method has not resulted in any tears or ruptures.Does the 'tornado' ribbing do anything? Yes, it saves me the added step of a little manual agitation via a spoon, I can rely on just the pouring technique to create the extraction momentum. Its not a crucial design, but it is an added benefit particularly if you're a novice to pour over doing some of the work for you.The material is ceramic, something I personally greatly prefer over silicone or especially plastic. Its got enough weight that it stays firmly in place and provided you're not using some weird artsy mug, isn't going to tip over on you. Reviews critical of the dripper because the mug tipped over on them says more about their mug's odd shape and personal dexterity than it is this dripper. In summary, I'm delighted with my purchase and if you're at all concerned about the single hole, don't be. Avoid the cheap filters and engage a bit of common sense and you'll be just as happy with this dripper.

Works great!

Yes, the hole is big but if you channel your inner barista and follow a few simple tips, you will get a great cup of Joe with no filter blowouts. 1. get yourself a gooseneck pour over kettle 2. moisten the filter before placing it in the dripper (I use a Melitta #4 and fold up the bottom edge so the filter fits snugly and clings. I like the bigger filter so it stands up over the edge; keeps things cleaner and easier). 3.Drizzle some of your 200 - 205ish° water over the grounds to just moisten them to release the 'burst of flavor'. 4. Pour evenly around the edges pausing to let the water drip through until you have your desired amount . . . and Bob's your uncle!! Great, rich tasting coffee

Good product. But you gotta know how to do pour-over.

I'm baffled by some of the reviews here. Any claim that use of this thing makes weak coffee (or bitter or anything else) is going to be about how it's used, not the product itself. I also have no idea why people are saying that the bottom of the filter ruptures. Someone post a video. Any pour-over product, any coffee-making product (short of Keurig, I guess) requires technique. It's fair to say that the hole is too big but all I know is that I'm getting a great cup of coffee every time. If you want to do pour-over, watch some videos of how to do it properly or, more fairly, learn about all the variables that go into it. Grind size, water temp, pouring methods. My tips: I use medium-grind, and a bit more than typically recommended. I use about 50-60 grams. Here's the thing I learned: You'd think more coffee makes the drink too strong. What it actually does it helps keep you from OVEREXTRACTING the acids and oils. If it's too strong--dilute a bit! Boil water and let it rest less than a minute, so you get to about 200 degrees F. Pour just enough in to wet the grounds and then gently stir just enough to get all the coffee surface area wet. Wait for, I don't know, 30 seconds or so. Then do the rest of the pour. Here's where I go rogue: I don't pour and wait, pour and wait. I just pour a medium stream in a spiral. Wait for that to settle, and then do one more round so that the water pools up pretty close to the rim. There you go. That's the method that gets me the coffee I love. Anyway: the actual product. Nice and hefty. Fits well on coffee mugs and is stable. Heavy and thick ceramic. Good price.
