Great espresso doesn’t begin with harder tamping. It begins with a level bed of coffee. Uneven grounds can leave weak spots that invite channeling before the tamper ever touches the basket.
When grounds pile higher on one side, water finds the easiest path through the puck. The result can be an inconsistent shot with less sweetness, balance, and body.
The Apexstone 58mm Adjustable Espresso Distributor levels coffee grounds across compatible 58mm baskets, creating a more uniform surface for confident tamping and repeatable extraction.
- Level grounds consistently: The broad, flat base redistributes coffee across the basket with a smooth palm turn.
- Match your dose: A screw-adjustable height adapts to different coffee volumes without extra shims or tools.
- Tamp more comfortably: The low-profile shape supports a natural palm position and controlled 90-degree motion.
- Enjoy a steady grip: The anti-slip aluminum handle helps you maintain control during distribution.
- Build a durable workflow: A solid 304 stainless steel base resists rust and stands up to daily espresso preparation.
Ideal for home baristas and café setups using compatible 58mm portafilters, including many Rancilio, Gaggia, La Pavoni, ECM, La Marzocco, Rocket, Alex Duetto, Astoria, and E61 group machines.
- Set the distributor depth to suit your basket and coffee dose.
- Place it gently on the untamped grounds and rotate with your palm.
- Remove, tamp the level bed, and pull your shot.
The black finish and compact 2.5-inch profile add a clean, professional touch to your coffee station. For care, rinse or brush gently and disassemble when a deeper cleaning is needed.
Level the puck, then let your espresso shine.

Queda muy uniforme y el peso es el ideal
Se queda atrapado un poco de café en los filos pero sin contar eso excelente producto compatible con normcore 51mm
Good material and distributes grinds evenly .
Great tool, beautiful finish, weight, and ergonomic design. Ensures level and lightly compressed grounds in preparation for tamping. Perfect match for my Breville BES870XL.
Unless my unit is screwed in all the way, no matter how many times I readjust the threads it's not level and my pucks are lopsided. Probably bad quality control. If your unit stays level at all heights it probably works great, but the one I received is useless for making good pucks. Save yourself the gamble and just WDT + spring-loaded tamp. Perfect every time.
I'm glad I ordered this by mistake.I ordered this thinking it was a uniquely designed espresso/coffee tamper. When I received it I realized I certainly made a mistake by not reading the product description carefully when ordering. Before sending it back, I did did some research, then decided to actually try using it. After seeing what it does, I kept it and love it. I didn't realize that even after tamping my coffee it was frequently unlevel, creating considerable variability in my espresso shots. I am pleased I made a constructive mistake.
I've been using this coffee distributor for a week now and wish I had been using it for the last year! It does its job very well and saves me a bit of time preparing my coffee 'puck'. I use a wire distributor for fifteen seconds before this tool and my espresso comes out of my machine beautifully! As far as the tool itself, it is clearly very well made and well finished. So solid when you pick it up! I am able to adjust the depth of its pressure very well and I appreciate this flexibility with the tool. I do highly recommend!
It has good weight and it has a quality feel and well built . Dept of distributor can be easy changes to your preference.
Heavy duty beautifully made very precise adjustment. If you set this up properly, it eliminates the need for tamping as it levels the ground coffee perfectly in the puck producing a very uniform extraction.
Es de buena calidad. Cumple. No creo que sea un elemento indispensable, pero es lindo y suma a mi equipo de espresso.
It works
Worked extremely well and helped me level things off which made tamping much easier!! Distributor is heavy and seems to be of good quality and you can adjust the height. Highly recommend.
Haven't needed to tamp since I got this thing. You find the sweet spot and voila! Perfect shot everytime. Great for "manual" espresso makers that struggle with inconsistent pressures. Also had troubles finding good tamps that actually fit my espresso pod. This is a perfect fit and it's easy to clean. I just blow the extra espresso off and wipe what's left with a paper towel. No water necessary. Looks good and goes with my black/stainless steel vibe I got going on. A must have for any espresso maker.
This espresso distributor is one of those tools you don’t realize you need until you use it. The build quality is excellent, hefty, well-balanced, and smooth to adjust. It evenly and consistently levels espresso grounds, noticeably improving extraction and taste. Using it feels natural and quick, and it takes the guesswork out of tamping prep. For anyone serious about their espresso at home, this is a simple upgrade that pays off every time you pull a shot. A reliable, well-made tool that does exactly what it’s supposed to do.
Beware negative reviews. The first one listed for me was from early 2019. I'm not disputing the reviewer's experience at all, but what matters is what the product is now, not what it was then. This espresso distributor is PERFECT! We bought a new espresso machine last Christmas and have been steadily upping our game in search of perfection (read consistency). We use a digital scale and measure our espresso load to the tenth of a gram. Our grinder costs more than our espresso machine. I absolutely know we're "perfect" in our grind and the load. The espresso machine does an excellent job. The one variable we were inconsistent with was the tamp. Our machine has a manometer (pressure gauge) and we'd be all over the map from 7 bars to 14 bars. It usually wasn't that bad, but sometimes it was. I want to get 9-10 bars every time, and we just weren't achieving that. In fairness, my wife comes closer than I do, but it varies for her as well. We put a digital bathroom scale on our kitchen counter (its actually cool looking and it stays there!). That helped us with our tamping, and we consistently tamp at 30 pounds. But after 8 months of this, we concluded that we just weren't getting the espresso powder consistently distributed, so sometimes we'd get channeling, sometimes not.I don't know why I waited so long to buy this. As soon as it arrived, I was blown away at how well made it is. You'd never know I price-shopped! This is worthy of sitting next to a $3,000 espresso machine (not that I'll ever experience that). The workmanship is first class. It's heavy and does its job extremely well. We tap the portafilter a little and use our finger to somewhat level out the coffee, then use the distributor. You'll have to play around a few days with the adjustment of the distributor; it lets you loosen the top, then screw out the distributor section to extend or retract it to the right depth. Only a little experimenting will let you find the right height. And you HAVE to be completely consistent on the grind and quantity of espresso you load into the portafilter; otherwise there will be no way for the distributor to be consistent!I could tell the first day this was a big improvement, and it got better the next couple days as I got the correct depth set on the distributor. Now I'm seeing much more consistency in our pressure, and therefore in the quality of the espresso we're pulling.Just make sure you're loading a consistent amount of espresso in the portafilter before you distribute and tamp or you'll never achieve consistency.Oh, and this should be obvious, but make sure you order the correct diameter distributor; they come in three sizes. My Solis Barista Perfetta Plus uses a standard 54mm portafilter, so the 53 mm Apexstone distributor was perfect (well, I suppose a 53.9 mm might be even more perfect, but you really don't want to cut it that close! My tamper is also 53mm.)In short, if you're making espresso, this will be the best $15 you will ever spend. I buy a lot from Amazon and most of the time I don't bother to post a review, but this distributor blows me away so much, ESPECIALLY for the low price, that I had to give it its due and recommend it to you.
Purchased for my Barista Express; it fits the machine's 54mm porta-filter nicely and when used correctly will provide consistently perfect shots without the need to tamp. This is a well machined and deliberately weighty piece - high quality for sure.Espresso levelers are designed to both level out and tamp your coffee in one step; if you are tamping after using this tool, you need to tweak your process. Here are a few points:If your espresso is properly ground and dosed in your porta-filter (I weigh out 17.6-17.8 grams for my BE machine), the leveler should not collapse into the grounds and spin freely; if so you need to increase the depth of the leveler head. To adjust your leveler's depth, simply loosen the knurled ring and turn out the silver leveler head - hold the leveler head in place and re-tighten. I've found that it will take two or three adjustments of the leveler to dial it in properly and yes, you will waste a bit of coffee. Test your adjustments by pulling shots.Once you adjust your leveler's depth it should require some modest downward pressure while rotating to both level and tamp your grounds. The 'drop and spin' demonstrations I've seen in videos online do not properly represent how the leveler should be used; you gotta' work it down into the grounds with some moderate downward pressure and more than one rotation. Once you perfect this simple process, you will NOT have to tamp. One final tweak is to add/subtract a small amount of coffee to achieve your desired extraction pressure. I personally find my shots taste best when my gauge is between the 11:00 and 12:00 position (11:30 is my optimal goal) on my Barista Express.Invest the 20 bucks and 10 minutes of tweak time and you will love your espresso machine more than ever -AND you can retire your tamper!!
I got this leveler because I watched a Whole Latte Love video where Mark said he only used a leveler (which is $125) without tamping. Being completely unwilling to pay that much for a coffee tool, I saw that this device had great ratings and a similar design. I obviously can't compare it to the Jack or the OCD tool, but I'm very satisfied with this leveler. It feels solid (weighs over 1 lb) and has an adjustable locking mechanism to raise and lower the leveling part.It fits in my 58mm portafilter with a little bit of jiggle. I have a bottomless portafilter to see how my shots are doing, and I saw an immediate improvement in all my shots after i started using the leveler. It's not magic though - you still have to tap the portafilter a little to get the grounds more or less level before putting the leveler on top, otherwise it will compress the pile of grounds in the center - this has happened a few times to me; you'll see that you get little flow out of the middle of the filter during extraction.Overall I'm really pleased with this little guy. Like I said, there was an immediately apparent difference in how my shots pulled. I'm not a pro by any means, but at this point in my espresso career I can't imagine how a $125 leveler would provide $107 more value than this one.
I am a home barista (not a professional) and I purchased this 58 mm distributor because distributing and leveling grind for espresso/cappuccino by hand is very difficult when the level of pre-tamped grind is lower than the basket edge - at least I am not able to do this. This distributor/leveler makes this operation very simple as it was described in previous positive reviews. This tool can be easily adapted to various levels of pre-tamped grind that are lower than the top edge of the basket - I did this many times. Since I purchased this tool I found that I use it in any case to distribute and level the grind even when grind cone is higher than the basket edge - it is much easier and takes less efforts and time in comparison with the hand distributing and leveling. One of the reason is diameters of the middle and upper parts of the tool are same and this diameter is larger than 58 mm diameter of the lower (distributing /leveling) part, therefore two upper parts always sit on the edge of the 58 mm basket that results in perfect leveling. I use this tool only half a month therefore I cannot say will it rust with time, however the tool I purchased looks very sturdy, it is well done (the working part is in polished chrome), looks great, and pretty heavy. I love to keep it in hand. Just in case: this tool can't be used as a tamper as it was said in several other reviews if used upside-down simply because its upper and middle part diameter is larger than 58 mm and they cannot go inside 58 mm basket. To me, this is very good and useful product.
